A stroll through downtown Littleton,
Colorado will reward you with tons of opportunities to find local, handmade
gifts and artwork on just about every block along Main Street. As the cozy
downtown scene grows, new local cafes, boutiques, and galleries keep popping up,
providing residents and tourists alike with endless opportunities to find that
perfect present for the special people in your life. However, the heart of
Littleton’s art scene is in the Depot Art Gallery, just east of Main Street. This train depot-turned-art gallery is open
Tuesday through Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm, where you can currently find the
annual Holiday
Art and Gift Market. The market is open
until January 3rd, so there is still plenty of time to peruse local artwork and
handmade goods for anyone left on your holiday gift list, yourself included!
You will find all sorts of unique
treasures at the Holiday Art and Gift Market this year. Oil, acrylic, and
watercolor paintings line the gallery walls alongside photographs and pastels,
while every available flat surface is covered with jewelry, ceramics,
sculptures, and more! This non-juried event is curated to offer Littleton’s
best artwork and wares to give and enjoy with friends and family this season.
You can find even more local artwork for purchase down the street at the Town Hall
Arts Center, where the Affordable Art Show
runs through January 23rd. Both shows are hosted by the Littleton Fine Arts
Guild, which boasts more than sixty current members working in a wide variety
of mediums.
The Littleton
Fine Arts Guild is a non-profit
organization that was started in the 1960s by ten women interested in painting.
The LFAG maintains and operates the historic Depot Art Gallery, giving its
members a space to showcase their paintings, photography, and artisanal wares
all year round. Built in 1888,
the building itself was originally a railroad train station. The station was
retired in 1965 and relocated down the street to where it currently operates at
2069 Powers Avenue. The gallery space includes a renovated caboose from the
1890s and boasts plenty of free parking next to the Douglas
H. Buck Community Center. No matter what time of
year, the historic gallery is certainly worth a visit.
