Dog Breeds that Make the Best Companions

Dogs complete us! Not only do they offer us love, affection, and loyalty, but they help us adopt a healthy lifestyle and increase our lifespan. They give us purpose, they make us laugh, and they do wonders for the ego; no one admires us as much as our pooch.

While we can agree that all dogs are awesome, some dogs are better suited for companionship than others.

If you’re looking for a pet who doubles as your shadow, consider one of the following:

Chihuahua

Chihuahuas don’t always have the best reputations, given their innate sassiness and tendency to boss everyone around. But, on the bright side, chihuahuas are incredibly devoted, loving, and expressive. They are happiest when cuddled up next to their owners as they watch TV or take a nap.

Of course, chihuahuas are also known to bark at everything, which makes them excellent guard dogs despite their small stature. As they say, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

Maltese

Maltese are highly loving dogs who want nothing more than to please their masters. The quintessential lapdog, these pooches like to stay as close to you as possible, often following you around and making a fuss when you return from the mailbox.

Maltese are generally playful, expressive, and gentle. As an added bonus, they tend to live long, healthy lives.

Bichon Frise

Part dog, part fluffy cloud, Bichons Frises are full of joy and affection. They can range in size from around seven pounds to 12 pounds, making them easy to handle and carry. They catch on quickly and are simple to train. They’re very low maintenance, as well; as long as they have companionship, these dogs are content and well-behaved.

Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniels are among the most popular breeds to own, and for good reason - they are people-pleasing, laid-back pooches who love to cuddle and play. They like to go for walks but don’t require any type of strenuous exercise or a yard of their own. Weighing in around 30 pounds, they’re sturdy but portable.

French Bulldog

French Bulldogs have grown in popularity over the last few decades. They’re extraordinarily cheerful and happy, making their owners cheerful and happy, too. They love to be around people and enjoy staying active. However, their lack of endurance makes them a great companion for anyone with a moderate lifestyle. French Bulldogs will take a stroll through the park over a three-mile mountain hike any day.

With so many wonderful dogs to choose from (i.e., all of them!), it can be hard to know which breed is right for you. If you’re after companionship, these pups make excellent choices. They’re full of spunk, devotion, and the desire to be your best friend forever.
